Effective in January 2025, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has described new refrigerant guidelines to reduce the environmental impact of home and commercial HVAC units. This means that manufacturers cannot produce any new units that don’t adhere to these guidelines; your current system is safe.
To adhere to these guidelines, All Seasons Heating & Cooling, Inc. will supply new heating and cooling systems compatible with R-454B, a new refrigerant with a significantly lower environmental footprint than current refrigerants. The EPA now requires that refrigerants used in home and commercial HVAC units have a Global Warming Potential (GWP) limit of 700; R-454B has a rating of 467. This is 76% lower than the previous refrigerant, R-410A, which has a GWP of 2,088. Manufacturers hope that R-454B’s lower rating will “future-proof” the refrigerant against potential reductions from this limit while protecting the health of our planet.
